Southern Poverty Law Center Blames “Patriots” for LAX Shooting

Tell me, are you at all surprised? Via Hot Air, here’s the comically titled “Hatewatch Exclusive” that blames “Patriot Conspiracy Theories” for the actions of a lunatic.

The 23-year-old man who allegedly killed a TSA official at Los Angeles International Airport yesterday was carrying a one-page “manifesto” that included references to the “New World Order,” the Federal Reserve and “fiat currency,” according to a knowledgeable source with ranking law enforcement contacts.

Ciancia’s language and references seemed to put him squarely in the conspiracy-minded world of the antigovernment “Patriot” movement.

Here’s the thing, Mark Potok. Floyd Corkins pleaded guilty in February to shooting a security guard at the Family Research Council. His goal was to kill as many people as he could and smash Chik-fil-A sandwiches in their faces. He was motivated by a “Hate Map” at the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website.

The SPLC can divine motives into what Paul Ciancia did through their racism crystal ball, but we know what motivated Corkins. The fact that the Southern Poverty Law Center hasn’t learned a bit of humility from the Corkins incident should tell us just how insulated from criticism this group is.
