More Academic Malpractice – Meg Lanker-Simons Edition

If I learned anything in college – and that’s debatable – it’s that among the student/faculty academic left, no idea emanating from the left is too stupid to take seriously. In fact, the only thing that is ever wrong with a left wing idea or argument is that it doesn’t go far enough. Example: If Finnington Farnsworth III says in math class that George Zimmerman is a racist, Professor Peaseblossom might reply that because George Zimmerman is half Hispanic, the class needs to have a discussion on how white people cause violence between non-white race groups to further white people’s agenda. (The names have been changed, but I saw this discussion on Facebook.)

I preface this post thus in regards to the Meg Lanker-Simons case. (Background, snark and fat jokes at The Other McCain.) See, as much as we’re having fun with this on the right, I think that Meg Lanker will eventually come out of this victorious. Sure, she’ll pay a fine and be ostracized for a while, but the left will rally around her eventually. There’s already a hint of this in a statement from a University of Wyoming spokesman:

“This episode has sparked an important discussion reaffirming that the UW community has no tolerance for sexual violence or violence of any type,” UW spokesman Chad Baldwin said. “The fact that the Facebook post apparently was a fabrication does not change the necessity for continued vigilance in reassuring that we have a campus where everyone feels safe.”

“It’s important that this event does not undermine the progress that has been made in this area.”

In other words, the University doesn’t blame Lanker for lying about the threat; in fact, the only thing that she did wrong was possibly make people think twice about the “rape culture” idiocy with which she was so obsessed. Anyone remember “fake but accurate?”

With all of the attention this idiot’s stunt is getting on the right, I have little doubt that the left will come back swinging with some moronic defense that tries to make the right look worse than someone who would lie about a rape threat to get attention to her cause. Here’s some Critical Theory inspired bullshit that I made up to illustrate this.

The “fat jokes” being written by far-right bloggers is an attempt to otherize Meg Lanker-Simons, to dehumanize. The “fat joke” is metaphorically written across the body of the dehumanized other, assaulting the victim as if she were an animal.

And making fun of a fool becomes rape. Wait for it.

Update: The Necropolitan Sentinel tweeted this post. Thanks and welcome.
